Following the exciting news that Kate and Will the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second child we thought what a fabulous excuse to revisit milestones in the royal couple’s relationship so far. From firm friends to the most famous married couple in the world to becoming parents to a very adorable Prince George.
Prince William and Kate Middleton Meet
As a young couple Will and Kate had their fair share of up’s and downs, unlike most of us their budding relationship from friendship to the official announcement of their romance unfolded under the watchful eye of the British media.
The couple met and became firm friends in 2001 in the first year of their art history studies at St Andrews University, after a lot of speculation about their relationship it wasn’t until the very famous photo of the pair on Klosters Ski Slopes that their romance was exposed, rosy cheeked and clearly in love we felt a royal fairy-tale brewing.
She Said ‘Yes’
Spending a few years as a very famous couple, the pair tried to keep their relationship relatively private. Dodging the press and carrying on with their respective careers became the norm for Prince Wills and Kate who was starting to grab the attention of the fashion world and became a big hit with fashionista’s alike, with The Times dubbing her one of the most influential people in the world.
So Prince William proposed to Kate on the grounds of their fairy-tale castle surrounded by little chirping birds that tweeted in song…. oh no sorry that was a Disney film I saw last week. In fact Will proposed on the veranda of a Kenyan hut that the pair were staying in whilst on holiday, still a beautiful scenario in our minds.
The announcement was officially made on 16th November 2010 I can still remember the gorgeous blue Issa dress Kate wore during the announcement co-coordinating with her dazzling blue sapphire engagement ring, being the style icon we know she is that particular Issa dress old out within 24 hours.
The Royal Wedding- The Dress, The Cake, The Sheer Beauty
The wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William is one of those special events where the country feels that little bit more in sync, on this day all is right with the world and we are watching the most luxurious wedding we will probably ever witness unfold. So here we are on the 29th April 2011, watching in awe as Kate Middleton waves to the world by her father side on the way to Westminster Abbey where she will meet Prince Will and marry in to the Royal family, mesmerised by how stunning Kate looks in her wedding dress, glowing from head to toe.
Kate’s Alexander McQueen wedding dress was beautiful from head to toe in vintage white and ivory, styling a beautifully curved sweetheart neckline with a very traditional long arm lace style with hand sewn flowers. Kate finished of her bridal look keeping it incredibly simple and elegant with diamond drop earrings and a Cartier halo tiara; which is a royal family heirloom given to the queen by her mother on her 18th birthday.
None other than than the brilliant Fiona Cairns had the pleasure of designing and creating the royal wedding cake, which was covered in spectacularly hand crafted flowers and lace detailing from Kate’s wedding dress.
In true Kate style her wedding flower bouquet was adorned with elegant and very simple white lily of the valley flowers which she chose herself and created by Shane Connolly; every flower meaning something special to Will and Kate, field maples and hornbeam’s were placed perfectly in Westminster Abbey for a fresh spring ambiance.
With a tear in our eyes, and happiness in our hearts we then watched as the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge take to Buckingham Palace Balcony and give us what we have all been waiting for, a kiss….twice! And then whispers that he loves here and we are all then (and still) a little choked by Wills sincere show of affection.
William & Kate Start a Family
Around one year later on 3rd December 2012 we hear the exciting news of Kate’s pregnancy with their first child and we feel lucky to watch Kate bloom and become a maternity style icon for pregnant ladies around the world.
July 22nd saw the arrival of little bouncing bundle of baby joy Prince George, at a whopping 81b 6 ounces baby George is now 3rd in line to the royal throne! No pressure George.
So baby number two is on the way, although the Duchess of Cambridge is again suffering with severe morning sickness we know the royal family are extremely excited to have a new bouncing baby in the family very soon. How lucky are we that we get to watch their little royal family grow.
